Respite Care

Respite care is a type of care that supports you and your carer by giving you both a short break from your regular care routine. Respite bookings are generally between two and four weeks, however, we are happy to discuss your specific needs.

Respite care is an excellent opportunity to give both yourself and your carer time to rest and ‘recharge’. Others choose to use it when the primary home carer needs to attend to other matters, such as travel or their own medical needs. Some even use it as an introduction to residential aged care.

Respite care can allow the resident and family time to determine if a facility is the right fit for their loved one before making the major decision of permanent care. Most respite care is planned, although occasionally, emergency respite care can be catered to.

To be eligible for respite care, it is preferred that you already have an Aged Care Assessment. For more information contact us if you don’t have an Aged Care Assessment yet but are still in need of accessing respite care. If you need help in organising an assessment by a My Aged Care assessor or social worker, we can provide guidance.

How Much Does it Cost?

You’ll be glad to know that the government sets a basic daily fee for respite residents at 85% of the single basic age pension. That means there’s help available if you need it! The maximum basic daily fee is currently $58.98 per day – an amazing support for those who need it. This rate is regularly updated on the 20th of March and the 20th of September each year, so it’s easy to stay up to date with what you’re eligible for.
